The Douglas Hyde Gallery in Dublin commissioned us to
design a book with artist Paki Smith, to be published to
coincide with his show in August 2009.
The artist's work is heavily layered and includes collage and
multiple techiques on one piece. His earlier mockup for
the book was made from pasting his own work onto a book
for a previous show at the gallery, which he had scribbled on
with a red pen. We tried to recreate the cover from this book
and adopted the colour scheme. The book uses a spot red
colour throughout to tie together Paki’s handwriting, texts
and page numbers. This colour scheme is also used for the
binding thread and headband.
